Tardiness

Introduction

We all could've possibly heard phrases about time such as "Time is of the essence.", "Time heals all wounds." and the most common phrase of all, "Time is gold.". Despite hearing these phrases or should we say, reminders especially as students who feel dreadful with the thought of waking up so early every day, do we actually value time?

It all starts with that urge to go back to sleep especially after staying up so late because you studied for the upcoming quiz or exams or spent too much time on social media or playing online games. Soon enough, most of these "everyday temptations" became common to us students. With the world changing, we unconsciously adapt to more things in our everyday lives.

For the past years in Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School, students are disciplined in coming early with their respective schedule; 7:00 A.M. for the Primary, Elementary, Primary, Intermediate, and Junior High School levels and 8:00 A.M. for the Senior High School students. However, there will always be students who arrive late on a regular basis.

Statement of the Problem

Tardiness has always been rampant in this school ever since. Surely, most students had their own experience of signing in the guard’s log for coming to school late. Most latecomers are also used to asking the department heads for late slips as a requirement to enter their classes. Despite the first sanction which is community service, this problem still managed to catch our attention, especially since we ourselves often come late as well. Tardiness can be solved in a lot of ways, but we aim to find more efficient solutions for this ever-rampant problem in PNJK-IS.

Hypothesis

We assume that the cause of tardiness is the stressful traffic, the far distance of residences, minor accidents along the way, the bad weather and even in the different ways of transportation.

We conducted a survey about tardiness with questions like missing flag ceremonies, receiving sanctions like community service due to multiple counts of coming to school late, and coming to class late for the purpose of finishing their projects and assignments.

Questions:
1. I always come to school late.
2. I am used to coming in late even though the class has started.
3. I miss the flag ceremony because of tardiness.
4. I receive sanctions because of excessive tardiness.
5. I come to class late because I am still finishing some of my projects and activities.

Conclusion

Based on the results that we've gathered through our survey, it shows that there are more Senior High students who always arrive to school late compared to the other levels.  Upon acquiring this information, we analyzed the data and discovered the possible reasons to why these students experience tardiness. It is possible that students lack time management, they undergo maturity, they could also be late due to prioritizing their projects and assignments first, and is also possibly influenced by other people who made tardiness as their habit or routine. Therefore, these students, considering their grade levels, has different causes for their tardiness.

  21. Based on the results, I found out that the highest number of students who committed tardiness were in higher grade levels specifically the Senior High School students. This is so real since stepping into a higher level of education comes with greater responsibilities or should I say academic works. I think that one of the reasons as to why students still experience this kind of problem is due to inability to manage time in the first place. This blog is very beneficial for I am one of those students who come to school not on time. I hope that this would reach to the other learners who deal with this ever growing problem and might as well gradually change the bad habit for their own good.

  22. When we know how to manage our time and become more responsible, then tardiness will not be a problem to study. In reality, I see tardiness not as a problem but as a challenge. It is not just students who are tardy, but even adults in our houses. You see, tardiness becomes a problem when it's too much. So let us not practice procrastination because we might bring it to the different stages in our lives. Learn to rest, not to procrastinate. All of this was because of this blog. It is very essential and important specially to us since we are still students and we will soon be given more responsibilities. Thanks to this blog we now being reminded!

  23. This blog actually changed a perspective of mine! Tardiness can really affect the students' performance in class. They lack the needed rest for their body due to prioritizing school works, studying for their upcoming exams, and etc. that can distract their focus in class. The overall content is great and very informative. Great work!! :)
